You Asked, We Answered: The CocoCut FAQ

by your pals atCocoCut

Welcome to the place for answers! We get a lot of questions about our little video downloader, so we put them all in one spot. If you're wondering about something, chances are you'll find the answer right here.

The Big Picture

So, what's the deal with CocoCut?

Think of CocoCut as your magic wand for web videos. It's a super handy browser extension for Chrome and Edge that lets you download videos and audio from pretty much anywhere. It even handles tricky streaming formats like HLS and M3U8.

Is it actually free? Like, for real?

Yes, for real! CocoCut is 100% free. You can download videos with CocoCut without subscriptions and no annoying watermarks on your downloads. Go ahead, download to your heart's content — we won't tell. We also offer an optional subscription for premium features (such as faster downloads, image preview, priority support) if you want extra power.

What browsers can I use it on?

CocoCut is happiest onGoogle Chrome (70+)andMicrosoft Edge (79+). It also plays nice with other browsers built on the same tech, like Brave and Vivaldi, but we give Chrome and Edge the most love.

Do I need to be a computer genius to use it?

Not at all! If you can click a mouse, you can use CocoCut. It's all self-contained in the extension. No extra software, no complicated setup. Just install and go.

Getting Started

How do I get this thing installed?

It's a piece of cake:

  1. For Chrome:Pop over to theChrome Web Storeand hit "Add to Chrome."
  2. For Edge:Head to theMicrosoft Edge Add-ons Storeand click "Get."
  3. Your browser will ask if you're sure. You are.
  4. Pin the icon to your toolbar. Trust us, it's easier that way.

Help! My CocoCut icon vanished!

Don't panic! It's probably just hiding. Click the puzzle piece icon (in Chrome) or the three dots (in Edge) in your toolbar. Find CocoCut in the list and click the little pin icon to keep it on your toolbar.

It's not finding any videos! What gives?

Sometimes videos are shy. Here are a few tricks to coax them out:

Let's Talk Features

What kinds of files can I download?

Pretty much everything! We support all the popular formats like MP4, WebM, and MOV for video, and MP3, AAC, and WAV for audio. We even tackle streaming formats like HLS and M3U8. For the full nerdy list, check out ourSupported Formatspage.

Will my downloads look... good?

Absolutely! CocoCut downloads videos in the best quality available, all the way up to 4K and beyond. No fuzzy, pixelated messes here. What you see is what you get.

What's this "Recording Mode" I keep hearing about?

That's our secret weapon! For videos that are too hard to be found or just plain stubborn, Recording Mode captures the video as it plays on your screen. It's a little slower, but it's a lifesaver for tricky sites.

Privacy & Safety (The Serious Stuff)

Are you spying on me?

Heck no! Your privacy is a big deal to us. All the downloading magic happens right on your computer. We don't see your videos, we don't track your browsing history, and we don't store any of your data. Period. Want to read the fine print? Here's ourPrivacy Policy.

Is it safe to use?

Totally. We're officially listed on the Chrome and Edge stores, which means we've passed their security checks. We're just here to download videos, not to cause trouble.

When Things Go Wrong

My downloads are taking forever!

Slow downloads are a drag. Try these tips:

Can I download a whole playlist at once?

Not yet, but we're working on it! Playlist downloading is one of our most requested features, and it's on our to-do list.

In the meantime, our other product,CocoFetch, already supports playlist downloads — you might want to give it a try.

What about on my phone?

Sadly, browser extensions and mobile phones don't really mix. For now, CocoCut is a desktop-only affair. But we're dreaming of a mobile app in the future!

Keeping in Touch

How do I get updates?

You don't have to do a thing! Your browser will automatically update CocoCut whenever we release a new version with cool new features or bug fixes.
